A lorry full of fans overturned in Kibra, Nairobi, on Sunday, December 20.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the driver was speeding and the fans were hanging loosely while celebrating a victory. One fan died on the spot after he was trampled upon by the lorry.

The deceased, Ahmed Omar, was a fan of one of the teams, Gogo FC, which had won the final match at the Kriss Darling Cup.

Gogo FC had trounced Ping FC from Dagoreeti 2-1 to win the cup. Other fans were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Kenyans.co.ke contacted politician and former NTV show host Kriss Darling for a comment. However, he declined to issue any statement on the accident.

A bus full of fans also overturned in Sagana, Kirinyaga County on the same day.

One of the passengers who spoke to our publication alleged that the bus was shot down by police at a nearby roadblock.

"The driver failed to stop after he was flagged down by police. He lost control while rushing to make a turn at the junction that leads to Murang'a County.

"Maybe they thought the driver was ferrying drugs," the victim said.

No deaths nor serious injuries were reported.

These two incidences came a day after two matatu touts perished in a tragic accident along Jogoo Road, Nairobi.

The two were reported to have been hanging on the door and performing stunts when the driver rammed into a mobile lorry.

Reports alleged that the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) had issued a six-month driving ban to the driver.

Detectives launched investigations into the matter after the case was reported at Makongeni Police Station.
