The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) took action against the driver and tout of Grand Travellers Solution Sacco, who were caught on camera assaulting two Royal Media Services (RMS) Staff on Monday, January 4.

NTSA seized the driver's licence for six months and also ordered him to undergo fresh driving tests to ascertain his skills.

The conductor too lost his licence and was ordered to acquire a Good Conduct Certificate from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

NTSA further said that it would investigate the Sacco, test all its drivers and vehicles before deciding whether to suspend it or allow it to continue with operations.

The agency added that it would also heighten its crackdown on rogue matatu operators in a countrywide exercise.

It noted that similar incidences go unnoticed. NTSA urged members of the public to be vigilant and report any touts and drivers flouting traffic and health laws stipulated to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Alice Sanya and Mercy Kiplamai, the two RMS staff, confronted the tout who wanted to carry excess passengers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The duo was ordered to alight as the conductor threw their luggage out of the vehicle.

The driver joined the tout in confronting the two women. Sanya was beaten after she tried taking a photo of the matatu's number plate.

"They twisted my arm and smashed my phone insisting that I cannot take a photo of the number plate, luckily my colleague took a video of them insulting me," she said.

The matter was reported to the Kilimani Police Station.
