Passengers using the Nairobi Commuter Train Service experienced a delay on Wednesday, January 6 after one of the trains stalled.

The commuter train from Embakasi heading to Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) stalled at the Makadara station at around 11 a.m.

The train had stalled on the mainline just after the Makadara Station which caused delays to other trains as it blocked the route to town.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a commuter who was in one of the trains that were caught up in the delay narrated the experience.

"I boarded a train from the Imara Daima station to town because I live around the area but when we got to Makadara, a train from Embakasi had stalled on the mainline.

"The train operators resorted to towing the stuck train, a process which took around 45 minutes. We were then told to board the stalled train after it started its engine," explained one of the passengers.

The commuter noted that a normal trip to town from Imara Daima that takes about 15 minutes ended up lasting about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Efforts to get a comment from Kenya Railways on the cause of the train stalling were unsuccessful as the Corporation did not respond to the inquiry at the time of writing this article.

Kenya Railways also failed to explain the course of the delay to the passengers but according to the commuter, some of them opted to take a matatu.

"We were so crowded in the train to town because we had doubled in number after switching trains. Some of the passengers however opted to board a matatu due to the long delays.

"Kenya Railways did not reveal what was the course of the train stalling and did not issue an apology for the long delay," the commuter added.

The Nairobi Commuter train resumed its services on Monday, January 4 after suspending its services back on Wednesday, December 23 due to low demand in the festive season.
