Protests erupted after a businessman was hacked to death and his body found dumped by the roadside in Laikipia County.

A report by The Standard indicated that the heinous act occurred on Sunday, January 10 after the man was waylaid by his attackers.

Confirming the incident, Marmanet Assistant County Commissioner Philip Chesa noted that the businessman identified as Patrick Maina was attacked while leaving the market center.

His body was found bearing deep cuts on his head as well as his back.

Chesa stated that a thorough investigation to apprehend the perpetrators had already been launched and that no stone would be left unturned. 

"We will leave no stone unturned as we seek justice for the deceased," stated the assistant county commissioner.

Chaos erupted in the area as residents decried increasing insecurity cases shortly after the deceased was discovered.

His body was transferred to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital Mortuary.

Elsewhere in Kitui County, a child aged four years passed away, hours after suffering severe burns sustained when their home went up in flames.

Reports indicated that the child died after their house was set ablaze under mysterious circumstances by unknown people on the night of Saturday, January 9.

A witness from the incident noted that the family woke up in choking fumes after their house was set ablaze.

The child died at a private hospital in Mwingi where her parents and sister were also hospitalised with burns.
