A first year student at Egerton University's Njoro Campus was found dead at his friend’s house after a night-long drinking spree with friends.

The reports were confirmed by Njoro Sub County Police Commander Muganda Kisaka who noted that the body was found on Sunday morning January 24, by his roommate.

He noted that preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased was drunk before he died.

Students who went out drinking with the deceased noted that he was taking hard drinks which may have overwhelmed him.

“He was together with his friends and had been drinking together, but he happened to have taken a lot of alcohol and he was overwhelmed.

“He was carried home by a boda boda rider and taken to his room. However, his condition was bad and he spent the night in a colleague's room," said the student.

The police rushed to the scene after being alerted by university officials of the incident.

Police cordoned off the scene of crime as they continue to investigate the matter. Students who were out with the victim on Saturday night as well as the roommate have since recorded statements with the police.

The body was transferred to Egerton University Funeral home and is awaiting postmortem.

In a similar incident, another first year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) died on November 23, 2020, after a drinking spree at a friend's house.

Police reports indicated that the deceased choked on her vomit after drinking with friends.
