The Garissa County Assembly building was engulfed in a huge fire on the morning of Thursday, January 28, 2021.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the building appears to have caught fire in most parts, with the huge flames tearing to the roof.
Local authorities and the Kenya Redcross have responded to the scene and working in collaboration as to extinguish the fire.

As of the time of reporting, no casualties have been reported at the scene of the incident.
An official from the Garissa County Assembly has stated that the fire may have been caused by a faulty electric wire.
According to the official, the fire that erupted at around 8:20 am scorched 48 offices within the building. Firefighters responded to the scene 50 minutes after the fire broke out.
"As at now, we can not be able to ascertain the real course of the fire, and the cost of the damage. As at around now, I can say, about 40 per cent of the building is gone," the county assembly clerk stated.
Minority County Assembly Minority Leader Mohammed Ali stated that the county assembly chamber had been completed ravaged by the flames.
The officials assured to conduct extensive investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire, and the property lost in the fire.
"Garissa activists suspect foul play and call for extensive investigations into Garissa county Assembly fires. Garissa residents deserve to know what caused the huge fires. This kind of incident smacks of a coverup," Blogger Ahmed Kadar alleged.
Recent fires involving county assembly premises experienced in various parts of the country have often than not elicited questions of foul play by administrators of the devolved units.
