Insiders have shared details of the murder suspect who threatened to commit suicide in Kayole, Nairobi after he was cornered by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). 

Charles Oluenyi who was arrested on January 27, was accused of killing his 28-year-old girlfriend, Margaret Muchemi, then set her on fire on Friday, January  22. 

A post-mortem result conducted by pathologists later revealed that the woman died from excessive bleeding after the murder suspect slit her throat before setting her ablaze. 

Oluenyi's close friends disclosed that he was a successful sales and marketing executive and the duo had planned for a wedding, two months prior to the incident.

They added that he was a seemingly responsible man ready to settle. 

"His only problem was falling in love,” his former university schoolmate told the Standard

Oluenyi used to work at a top TV station in Kenya as a sales and marketing executive. He was also employed at one the country's leading media houses in the same capacity but at a vernacular radio station.

The lovebirds also co-owned a liquor store at Umoja Estate. 

Detectives rescued the sales professional from an agitated crowd that was baying for his blood in Kayole. 

Oluenyi threatened to jump from the fifth floor of an apartment. He also stabbed himself several times before sleuths swiftly pinned him down. 

Police lobbed tear gas to disperse the angry mob before rushing him to hospital. The suspect will be arraigned in court to face murder charges.
