Members of the county assembly of Bungoma have issued an ultimatum to Governor Wycliffe Wangamati.

The MCAs have called upon the governor to present a supplementary budget or they will initiate an impeachment process.

The county legislatures alleged that the governor had diverted the county’s budget towards a political course. The members also justified their decision by stating that they had received several complaints from contractors who are yet to be paid.

"Last year we had a financial budget of Ksh70 million but we don’t know where that money is up to now. The governor and his Finance CEC have decided to hold on to the finances meant to pay the workers. The workers have not been paid for over 16 months,” the legislatures said.

MCAs have grown in confidence with Nairobi County legislators impeaching former governor Sonko in December 2020.

The Senate supported the four charges brought against the governor which included gross violation of the constitution, abuse of office, misconduct and crimes against national law.

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was also impeached in what the MCAs termed as misuse of public resources. The Senate upheld the MCAs decision.

Kirinyaga Governor, Ann Waiguru, survived an impeachment last year after a Senate committee voted unanimously to overturn the MCAs decision.
