Detectives in Mbeere South, Embu County, are investigating a murder after a man violently killed his wife and two children aged 9 and 5 in the early hours of Sunday morning, February 7.

The suspect, David Kariuki Nyaga, allegedly locked up his family inside their house in Kiamukuyu, before executing them one after the other, in a scene described by the detectives as gruesome.

Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers and the police rushed to the scene after they were informed of the crime by the village Assistant Chief Anthony Munyiri.

Unfortunately, on arrival,  the suspect had brutally wiped out his entire family, by allegedly hitting their foreheads using a sledge hammer.

The murder weapon was recovered and the suspect arrested. Detectives are trying to establish the motive of the killings.

A number of cases involving murders have been reported in the past, with the most recent being the killing of a businessman in Nakuru. The said businessman was abducted by an unknown gang who went on to demand Ksh 8 Million ransom. He was killed after the family failed to pay the ransom.

In yet another murder incident, Lawrence Warunge, an IT student, confessed to killing his father Nicholas Njoroge Warunge, his mother wife Ann Wanjiku, their adopted nephew Maxwell Njenga, his brother Christian Njenga Njoroge and farmhand James Kinyajui Wambaa on the night of January 5 in Karura Village, Kiambu County.

The Mt Kenya University student told homicide detectives that he was inspired by ‘Killing Eve’, a British dark comedy-drama series.

The suspect told detectives that he had searched online on the best way to execute the murderous plan and stumbled on the series.

He told police that he settled on a metal rod and a 9-inch dagger as his murder weapons after watching the series.

Waruinge who is still in police custody led detectives to a pit latrine in Mai Mahiu where he had disposed  the murder weapons and other key exhibits.
