Renowned lawyer, Cliff Ombeta, was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital after he suffered a heart attack. Ombeta revealed his health status on Saturday, February 13.
The criminal defence attorney said that the heart attack was occasioned by cholesterol. He also shared a photo which showed that he was bedridden at a high dependency unit (HDU).
"I was admitted at the Nairobi Hospital after suffering an attack. Doctors said that the chest pains were caused by cholesterol.
"Can you believe that? Yes, it is true," Ombeta said.
Ombeta's friends and followers wished him a quick recovery. Among them were former Taita Taveta Women Representative Joyce Lay and lawyer Silas Jakakimba.
"Quick recovery brother. Your line was off when I tried calling you two days ago. Praying for you," his colleague responded to Ombeta's tweet.
Prior to his illness, the lawyer had been sharing his weight loss journey and had lost 9 kilograms after an intense workout programme he started late last year.
Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in the blood. High cholesterol can lead to the development of fatty deposits in blood vessels which eventually grow and hinder blood flow through the arteries.
The deposits can form a clot that causes a heart attack or stroke. According to medical reports, high cholesterol can be inherited or emerge as a result of an unhealthy lifestyle.
Doctors advise that a healthy diet, regular exercise and medication can help reduce and curb high cholesterol. The ailment can be detected through a blood test.
Ombeta owns a law firm, Ombeta and Associates Advocates and has represented top clients such as former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, Fredrick Leliman and Stephen Cheburet in the Willie Kimani Murder case, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino in the DJ Evolve attempted murder case.
The Akasha Brothers, Jacque Maribe in the Monica Kimani murder case and Gabrielle Hannah Cohen-van Straten in the Tob Cohen murder case against Sarah Cohen.
