President Uhuru Kenyatta visited former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo at his home over the weekend, a visit that has brought Kabogo back into the political chase game.

Photos of the two leaders emerged on Sunday, March 7, and fuelled debate between political pundits and Kenyans at large. The visit by the Head of State came after Uhuru's elaborate tour of Samburu County.

Details of the meeting remained scanty, with nothing being released to the public save for the pictures, which appeared to speak volumes to any keen observer.

Kenyans.co.ke was able to reach out to an insider of President Kenyatta’s mobilization team, who divulged that the meeting took place at Kabogo’s Iguta Paradise Homes along Kiambu Road.

“They have been friends for a very long time and sometimes friends meet to talk about all manner of stuff. There is no official report because sometimes Kenyans must accept the fact that the President also has friends, who he can consult with,” he said.

Uhuru and Kabogo are commercial property developers; the president having shown his commitment to building affordable houses as part of his agenda, while Kabogo is said to be the proprietor of Iguta Paradise Homes, which is where the meeting happened.

Kenyatta was dressed in a maroon polo shirt, a pair of jeans, a baseball cap and Nike sport shoes with an orange colourway.

Uhuru’s friend, the former governor, matched the Head of State’s casual style with a cap, a white shirt, a pair of jeans and boots.

Political pundits have said that Kabogo is one of the key leaders in Mt Kenya, and who is likely to take over from President Kenyatta as kingpin.

Despite being out of the government following his defeat in Kiambu in 2017, his influence continues to be felt across the region in TV appearances, public rallies and his active social media channel.

Kabogo is part of a caucus of Mt Kenya leaders who are strategizing on how to steer the country after President Kenyatta’s term lapses in 2022.

"People want to believe that we do not have a successor. We have it covered. I am saying 'we' because I am one of them. We are many leaders. The only difference is that we are not politicising it because it is now time for President Uhuru to do his work. We are only strategising.

"The meeting we had can actually produce a very able leader, someone who has been elected by the people and not selected in a boardroom," Kabogo disclosed in a past question and answer (Q&A) session with the Standard.
