The Teachers Service Commission(TSC) has issued a new directive on the marking of the KCPE/KCSE 2021 examinations.
TSC boss Nancy Macharia stipulated that all examiners ought to be given special Covid-19 passes to access marking centres in Nairobi.
This is in a bid to comply with new directives issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, March 26, and ensure that marking is done in time.
During the Presidential address, Uhuru revoked all covid-19 passes as a form of mitigating the spread of the virus. The Head of State added that a section of those with the passes abused the privileges.
"I direct the Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government and the Ministry of Health to immediately review the protocols for reissuance of curfew passes and exemptions. In that regard, in the intervening period all passes issued are hereby vacated," Uhuru stated.
About 7,000 examiners had been contracted by Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) in order to ensure examination process runs smoothly.
The news comes after Education CS George Magoha, in an earlier address, affirmed that KCPE marking would be done in due time. He added that the exam marking is 35% complete.
"The KCPE exam marking is 35% complete. So, the progress is well and we shall be complete as per the schedule," Magoha stated.
Initially, TSC had recalled all teachers on annual leave in a bid to ensure the examination period goes according to plan.
TSC boss Macharia affirmed that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure that the exercise is conducted in line with the Covid-19 protocols.
“The commission has already issued guidelines that emphasize the need for all teachers who will be involved in the examination exercise to comply with all COVID-19 mitigation measures provided by the Ministry of Health,” she stated.
