In recent months, boda boda riders have been a menace on Kenyan roads after setting a number of motor vehicles on fire even with the slightest provocation.

The unruly squad made the unwelcome comeback around October 2020 after a video captured the gang accosting and beating up a helpless motorist.

In the aftermath of the incident, cases of vehicles being set on fire after allegedly knocking down boda boda riders have been reported countrywide.

Towards the end of 2020, around 300 boda boda riders stormed a hospital in Kirinyaga sub-county, dragged out a patient and lynched him.

At the time, the victim was getting treated at the hospital, when the riders stormed and took him out to the Mwea-Embu highway where they killed him.

Celebrities have not been spared the wrath of the gangs after comedian Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang'o, had his Mercedes Benz sports car set on fire under similar circumstances.

In his January 2021 revelation, Jalang'osaid that he had been a victim of rogue boda boda riders who have been accused of taking the law into their own hands on numerous occasions.

He stated that his convertible Mercedes Benz was destroyed by a mob of rogue riders after an accident involving one of them.

“You see I don’t drive my benzo (Mercedes Benz) anymore. My brother was driving when he got involved in an accident with a rider. He was surrounded by a mob and they completely destroyed my car,” he narrated at the time.
