A licensed gun owner shot and killed a security guard in Nairobi's Moi Avenue on Friday afternoon following an alleged botched robbery

Reports indicate that the incident took place near Bihi Towers where suspected thugs tried to steal from a warehouse which the guard was manning.

In an effort to fight off the intruders, the man opened fire and mistakenly shot the guard who was outside.

The guard is said to have shot on the head and died on the spot.

The shooting attracted passers-by who crowded the scene as traffic built up.

Emergency services responded to the incident taking away the victim's body as well as another passerby who was injured by a stray bullet.

Police have commenced investigations into the shooting.

Instances of innocent people being killed by stray bullets in Nairobi have occurred on several occasions.

In February, a woman was accidentally shot and killed by police while chasing after a notorious robber who was fleeing on foot in the CBD.

The incident happened between Landis Road and Racecourse in Nairobi.  Police opened fire at the thug after he declined to surrender himself.

The victim died on the spot after she was hit by a stray bullet.

In March 2020, a case of a 13-year old boy caused an uproar among the public after a police officer shot him on a third-floor balcony in Kiamaiko estate in Nairobi.

Yasin Hussein Moyo was standing at the balcony while police were enforcing curfew regulations when one of the police bullets struck him in the stomach. He was then rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital where he succumbed to the gunshot wound.
