An OCS in Molo, Nakuru County lost Ksh 320,000 cash issued by the National Police Service (NPS) meant for cash bails.

Officers in the region have launched a manhunt for the OCS' house help who was accused of stealing the cash before fleeing.

Molo Sub - County Police Commander Samuel Mukhusi confirmed the incident.

He further explained that the money was stored in the OCS' house as the police station was undergoing refurbishment. Other important documents and equipment were also transferred to the new location.

"We had asked for support from the area Constituency Development Fund to renovate the station. The cash bail could not remain at the station as constructors undertook their duties.

“It’s important that, when the cash bail monies pile up, they get moved to a safer place, so she decided to take the money to her house”, Mukhusi stated.

The police commander added that the OCS would account for the money before the house help is arrested and the stolen funds retrieved.

"It’s true that the cash bail money is missing, and the OCS will have to look for ways to avail the money for its intended purpose even if it means she will apply for a loan," the police boss declared.

Mukhusi also refuted reports that the cash bail totaled nearly Ksh1 million as alleged on social media platforms and called for patience as police tracked the house help.

A Chief Inspector of Police (CI) in the same county, lost Ksh1.15 million while eating lunch on Monday, May 24. The CI alleged that he saw the robber break into his car, steal the cash along with a Ceska pistol before speeding in a getaway car.

The police inspector had withdrawn the cash from a nearby bank before falling prey to the thug. He, however, deviated from explaining the purpose or source of the amount of cash.
