That Thursday night, June 10, boda boda riders cornered him at Kikopey in Gilgil while posing as one of them. Police saved him from death and the suspect was detained at Nakuru East Police Post.

"The riders apprehended him at around 10 pm after spotting his motorbike," Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander John Onditi stated adding that Mwangi was fleeing to Nairobi.

Police also retrieved a pistol they believed was involved in the murder of the 30-year-old woman in Nakuru. The detectives added that on Friday, June 11, the said day he assaulted two officers, Mwangi complained of body aches and requested to be rushed to hospital for treatment.

Reports indicate that he incurred injuries on the head, chest and had swollen hands.

"He jumped out of the moving vehicle and fled into an unknown destination," Nakuru East Sub-County Police Commander Phanton Analo stated. Charged up residents joined police in the manhunt and traced the suspect to a house located at White House estate.

Police officers called for reinforcement and tracking dogs from K9 were also included in the manhunt. Mwangi was reported to have scaled the walls of Nakuru Boy's High School and ran into the compound after he was nearly caught in the estate house.

However, police accosted him inside the school premises and protected him from the angry mob. They were forced to fired in the air to disperse the crowd before driving away with the suspect.
