The suspects accused in the case of formerly kidnapped Eastleigh businesswoman, Hafsa Mohammed Lukman, have been freed on bond.

A Nairobi court, however, ruled that both Hafsa Abdi and Jackson Njogu, are not to contact witnesses and the complainant so as not to jeopardize the case.

The two suspects had initially pleaded not guilty to the offense.

Both Abdi and Njogu had been apprehended by police officers on Sunday, June 27, at a hideout at Crystal View Lodge in Kinangop.

They were accused of kidnapping and torturing Lukman at a house in Kayole, Nairobi- claims which they disputed.

Lukman, who was rescued on Sunday, June 20, affirmed that the kidnap plot was a setup whereby her friend, Abdi led her to the captors.

This was confirmed by the victim's brother Zachary Lukman who pointed out that two men approached his sister, put sawdust in her mouth, and tied her up.

"After she (Hafsa) regained consciousness, her friend Abdi was nowhere in sight. Hafsa was tied up in an abandoned house," Zachary stated.

The incident came to light when a video of a tied-up and seemingly tortured Lukman surfaced online. In the video, Lukman pleaded for her family to pay the Ksh5 million demanded by the abductors.

This led to investigations by police officers who traced Lukman's last steps to her shop in Eastleigh in the company of Abdi.

According to a footage retrieved by the police from Hafsa's shop, the two women could be seen walking in and out of the business minutes later.

The two friends would later be reported missing by their families- as both were suspected to be victims of the kidnapping incident.

However, Lukman would be rescued by detectives after neighbours heard screams coming from a locked house in Kayole and tipped off the police. Her friend, Abdi would later be arrested in the company of Njogu as both are believed to be part of the scheme.
