Nairobi motorists have been cautioned to take note of closure of a section of Outer Ring road outside the Central Business District for a period of seven hours.

In a statement shared on Thursday, July 29, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced that the road would be closed on Sunday, August 1, 2021.

The closure will last between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and is aimed at allowing the contractor to install footbridge trusses.

"We wish to notify the general public that a section of Outer Ring Road Will be closed at Taj Mall/Pipeline on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

"This is to allow the contractor on site to install footbridge Trusses," read the statement in part.

In the notice, KURA warned motorists not to use the road and provided an alternative route to access Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD).

Motorists heading to Nairobi were advised to use Mombasa Road and Quarry Road, while those heading to Thika Road to use Eastern Bypass.

Outer Ring road is an important artery that links Thika Superhighway to Eastlands, JKIA, Mombasa road, Industrial Area and other parts of Nairobi city.

Residents of Donholm, Umoja, BuruBuru and adjoining estates rely on the road for quick access to Nairobi’s CBD via Mombasa and Thika roads.

In August 2020, the country had secured Ksh6.4 billion aimed at building special lanes to be used by high capacity buses.

The redesign of the road allowed contractors to construct a middle road on the space between the two sides of the highway.

The road is a 13km stretch.
