Police are holding one person accused of assaulting armed police officers in Kajiado County on the night of Monday, August 2, after he was cornered carrying game meat.

The police and KWS officers tracking the alleged poachers were involved in a car chase with two suspects who had resisted arrest while allegedly trafficking game meat using a motorcycle.

A police report indicates that the two confronted the law enforcement officers upon realizing that the route they were using had been sealed off by a multi-agency team.

One of the two, identified as Mutua Mutie, 40, reportedly injured one of the officers with a matchette.

The suspect allegedly injured himself in the process after falling down and rolling over while trying to escape from the officers who were struggling to restrain him.

His accomplice was alleged to have fled into a nearby thicket as the scuffle ensued.

"These are some of the notorious poachers we have been tracking for a long time. These warden imposters usually roam using a siren to confuse residents."

"It is so unusual for one to resist arrest, especially when officers are armed. They put their lives in danger," Kajiado Sub County Police Commander, Daudi Loronyokwe, stated.

He cautioned that the government was determined to protect national heritages and wildlife. He warned that culprits found guilty of game meat trafficking would be apprehended.

"The suspect will be detained at Kajiado Police Station and will be arraigned on Wednesday, August 4," Loronyokwe added.

A manhunt was launched to track the other suspect.
