Dickson Njanja Mararo, the man accused of shooting two police officers and a woman at Quiver Lounger and Grill along Thika Road has been released on a Ksh10 million bond.

The city businessman was also ordered to pay Ksh5 million cash bail as an alternative by a Milimani court, on Thursday, August 5.

Magistrate Esther Kimilu, however, denied him certain privileges in return for his freedom. These included depositing his passports with the court and police officers detaining his firearm, which was treated as an exhibit in the case.

Kimilu ordered relevant agencies to never issue the trader with any other firearm until the case is heard and determined.

"I hereby grant bail on condition that the suspect should not interfere in any way with the crucial witnesses, directly or indirectly," an excerpt of the ruling stated.

Cliff Ombeta, the suspect's court, lauded the court's ruling after opposing the prosecution's request fronted by Makueni MP and lawyer Dan Maanzo.

The lawmaker wanted Mararo to be detained for a few more days to allow them ample time to investigate the case and present a preliminary report.

They argued that the businessman would interfere with witnesses and the case. Detaining him further would ensure police liaise with witnesses protection agencies to safeguard the lay, expert and character witnesses.

Two police officers, Festus Musyoka and Lawrence Muturi and a lady, Felistas Nzisa, were injured in the shoot out at Quiver, Kasarani on July 2.

Muturi and Nzisa were discharged after treatment as they had incurred minor injuries. Musyoka, nonetheless, was reported to be battling for his life at an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a Nairobi hospital.

Mararo surrendered to the police on Monday, July 5, accompanied by lawyer Ombeta after being on the run for three days.

The lawyer argued that the police provoked his client by wooing the said lady, Nzisa, purported to be his girlfriend. Speaking in court on Thursday, August 5, the criminal lawyer stated that he would push to have the case solved amicably.

The case will be mentioned on September 30, 2021, according to Milimani Magistrate Esther Kimilu's directives.
