Politician Omingo Magara has narrated how he unexpectedly clinched a Member of Parliament seat in 2001 but unfortunately received results while in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Speaking during the Bonga na Jalas show on You tube, Magara narrated that his brother and former South Mugirango MP, Enoch Nyakieya Magara had just died in a car accident when Ford-Kenya party members approached him and asked that he becomes the party's flag bearer in the by-election.

From the initial results, Omingo looked like he was winning and his competitors were not so pleased. So much so that they beat him up and left him, nursing wounds in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

"They wanted to kill me so that they could force another by-election. Those beating me were KANU members who had been given money by late President Daniel arap Moi and they could not believe that they were not able to deliver the seat so they wanted me to die so that another by-election could be held.

"Hence, when I was being declared the winner, I was in surgery in ICU and my votes were being guarded by the people," he added.

In 2002, Omingo defended his seat on a Ford-people ticket and on an ODM ticket in 2007.

In 2013, however, he vied for the Kisii Senatorial seat, where he came a distant third as Chris Obure won in the fiercely contested elections.

After losing the election, he retreated to his home, where he started a dairy farm with only three cows. He narrated that by the end of 2020, he had accumulated 106 dairy cows.

Omingo now says that he will be seeking the Kisii gubernatorial ticket under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, which is associated with Deputy President William Ruto.

"I support the Deputy President because of two reasons. One, he is a hustler, his father was not read in the history books and two, he believes in people empowerment," Omingo stated.

The former lawmaker disclosed that he will use his story to inspire Kisii County residents and show them that it is possible to also do the same.

"To the Kisii residents, I believe I have whatever it takes to serve you and to do it diligently. I will not let them down," he concluded.
