“Global Student Prize is a US$100,000 award presented to an exceptional student, making a real impact on learning, the lives of their peers, and on society beyond,” Global Student Prize website reads.

Rashid is the only Kenyan student among 50 finalists selected from different countries all over the world.

“Amisa Rashid was selected from over 3,500 nominations from 94 countries around the world,” the prize organizers stated.

Born and raised in Kibra, Rashid started the Nivishe Foundation in 2019 to help her community overcome mental health challenges.

Rashid has been able to reach out to over 10,000 youth through her foundation, stating that she would use the funds to expand her foundation.

“If I win, I will use the funds to scale up my work at Nivishe Foundation so that I can reach out to more girls in Kibera,” Rashid stated.

The organization is set to announce the winner in November.

Kenyans have congratulated the Kenyan student for flying the Kenyan flag high on the global map.

Ministry of ICT Chief Administrative Secretary Nadia Ahmed Abdalla congratulated Rashid, stating that the Kenyan student has changed people’s lives through her initiatives.

“Congratulations Amina Rashid. You are such a phenomenal young lady and change maker. I am so proud of you, keep aiming higher and being the change we want to see,” she tweeted.
