Former Machakos Senator, Johnson Muthama has hit out at his former party Wiper Democratic Movement, saying that the outfit is in shambles since he left

In a statement on his social media, Muthama also took a swipe at his former party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka whom he accused of being "politically unattractive".

“Since I left Wiper Party, it has suffered from political apathy over the years,” said Muthama in a tweet, drawing attention to the fact that Kalonzo doesn't seem to attract a plethora of potential running mates like other presidential candidates.

He added that the leader of the Wiper party is facing difficulties in attracting candidates for the position of running mate as we are approaching next year's polls due to his indecisiveness.

“As you can see in the STAR front page, @SKMusyoka is not even attracting any possible suitor for the position of a running mate,” he added

He noted that the problems facing his former party are the lack of internal democracy, alienation of party members and constant wrangles.

“The party alienates its members and can make one suffer from social and psychological damage due to lack of personal and political interaction within the party structures," he added.

The senator ditched Kalonzo’s Wiper party to support Deputy President William Ruto affiliated party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Kalonzo Musyoka, who is among One Kenya Alliance(OKA) principles and has vowed not to back anyone for the presidency, is seeking a running mate for the upcoming 2022 General Election.

Earlier in the year, the Wiper party fielded Muthama’s Ex-wife as a candidate for the Machakos Senatorial position, pitting her against a candidate from Muthama’s UDA party. Kavindu Muthama won and is now the Machakos senator.

Mutham's criticism comes against the backdrop of a major defection from the party.  Makueni County Governor Kivutha Kibwana recently resigned from Wiper to Muungano Party to vie for the presidency.

The governor complained of lack of understanding between him and the party leader as the main cause of his exit.

“There have been issues within the party, especially between myself and the party leader. I sat down with the people of Makueni and told them I could no longer be the (Wiper) party Chair. And they said it was fine as it is not mandatory for me to hold that position in order to serve them,” the governor said after his defection.
