Land Cabinet Secretary, Farida Karoney, has stated that she is focused on handing over to the next administration but dispelled reports of joining elective politics.

During an interview on a local radio station, the CS stated that she has been writing handover notes since last year, noting that the notes would help the next CS in executing their mandate.

Karoney further clarified that she would not be vying for a political seat in the upcoming 2022 General Election.

"I started writing my handover notes last year. I write a page or two every day because I know a time will come when the next Cabinet Secretary will come in and we will have to handover,

"I am not looking for any political seat. So do not worry about me going to politics, I am not,”  the CS revealed.

Karoney explained that she is a technocrat who can serve the country better in other positions besides politics.

“I am a Kenyan professional with a lot of management skills and I do not think there will be a situation where I cannot find a contribution to make in our country. There will be many ways in which I can contribute and it will not be in the political space,” she stated.

When pressed on her future after her reign at Ardhi house, the CS noted that nothing was certain at the moment.

“I have the technical competency and skills to serve in the General Management either in the public sector or in the private sector and that we shall see in the fullness of time,” she stated.

The CS further insisted that her initiatives at the Ministry of Lands would continue after her exit.

“We have been very successful in building strong systems to lock out cartels, brokers, and people who ought not to be transacting in our sector,”  she stated.

Among the reforms, the CS has undertaken since her appointment at the ministry is the digitalisation of land processes through the newly launched Ardhisasa platform.
