Three Arrested Following Lynching of Boy in Girls' School

Update October 25: 3:30 PM: Githunguri Court allows seven-day detention of three security guards suspected of the murder of a form four student from Gathiruini

The Trio was to appear in court on Tuesday, October 26.

New details of the trio's involvement emerged after students from Komothai girls gave their statements to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation concerning the matter.


Police have arrested five guards at Komothai girls secondary who were allegedly involved in the murder of a form four student from Gathiruini high school. 

According to a report, the 17 year old deceased, was accused of leading a group of male students into the institution on Thursday, October 21 before the boy was attacked.

The victim was then rushed to Kigumo Level IV Hospital in an unconscious state but succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment.

The trio was arrested a day after detectives recorded statements from the students and they will appear in court on Tuesday, October 26 to answer to charges.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, "They had under the cover of darkness tiptoed into Phoeb House for an unknown mission, before they were spotted by some girls who immediately raised alarm, attracting the whole school."

The DCI further noted that the students, teachers and guards arrived at the crime scene to see what was going on.

At the same time, the detectives are on a manhunt for the other five boys who sneaked together with the victim on the fateful night.

The George Kinoti-led committee revealed that the boys walked out of their school at 4 am and crept into the girls' dormitory and left, leaving the victim behind after he was cornered.

In a statement, Kinoti stated that the other five boys managed to trace their way back to their school while the deceased was caught by the angry students and staff.

He further stated that the detectives later visited the scene and recovered planks of wood suspected to have been used to assault the victim.

Several reports of lynching have been reported over the past few weeks, with the police warning the public against taking the law into their own hands.

Authorities have warned against the lynching of suspects, stating that everyone is entitled to being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
