There was a snarl-up on Uhuru Highway at the Haille Selassie junction after a flatbed truck carrying luxury cars got stuck under the Nairobi Expressway bridge.

Photos seen by Kenyans.co.ke on the afternoon of Sunday, October 31, showed mechanics trying to adjust the height of one of the cars in an attempt to reverse the truck.

The truck, which was ferrying two Prado cars, navy blue in colour, among the four trapped luxury cars, got stuck at Haile Selassie roundabout towards Nyayo House.

It was not immediately clear if the cars were damaged in the incident.

A witness confirmed to this writer that mechanics had arrived at the scene and they might have attempted to reverse the truck in order to use a different route.

The truck had run into the construction site whose height limit was pegged at 4.5metres. The signpost was erected on the route on Saturday, October 30.

The photos also showed that the scene of the incident had been reduced to a one-lane route resulting in a slight snarl-up.

Since construction on the expressway began in 2019, the highway has turned Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway and Waiyaki Way into a nightmare for motorists and commuters plying the area.

Transport CS James Macharia, however, promised that the low-decker highway on the expressway would be expanded to accommodate the BRT system, cycling lanes and pedestrian walkways.

The CS also noted that the highway was now 75 per cent complete and that the same company undertaking the construction, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), would build the lower-decker road.

The construction of the Nairobi Expressway, which is valued at Ksh65 billion, is set to be finalised in March 2022.
