  • Thousands of WhatsApp users have suffered a major setback after the messaging platform permanently removed the application on some smartphones.

    The removal of the app, which was effected Monday, November 1, will see over 40 mobile phone brands become incompatible with the latest updates.

    "WhatsApp will no longer support Android phones running on OS 4.0.4 and older starting November 1, 2021," their message read.

    "For the best experience, we recommend you use the latest version of OS available for your phone," the message added.

    The move implies that anyone without a supported device will no longer be able to send messages, make video calls, share documents, access photos or even videos using this encrypted messaging app.

    The move follows a series of upgrades run on the mobile application to make user experience more friendly and easy.

    In order to continue using the application, the user will not have any choice but upgrade to a supported device.

    Most devices that run on Android 4.0.4 and older versions have already stopped supporting the messaging application.

    The minimum requirement to run WhatsApp will be limited to iOS 10 and newer versions. Any iPhone running on operating systems older than iOS 10 will not work from November 1.

    Devices such as iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, Apple iPhone SE (1st generation) will stop supporting the messaging application.

    Some popular Android devices that will not be able to use WhatsApp include, Samsung Galaxy SII, Galaxy S3 mini, Optimus L5 Dual, Optimus L4 II Dual, Optimus F7, Optimus F5, and more.

    A number of Samsung brands have been affected by the move. They include Samsung Galaxy Trend Lite, Galaxy Trend II, Galaxy S3 mini among others.

    LG models affected include Lucid 2, LG Optimus F7, LG Optimus F5, Optimus L3 II Dual, Optimus F5,Optimus L5,Optimus L5 II and Optimus L5 Dual.

    Other models affected include ZTE and Sony among other brands.
