Ever since the pandemic struck, which caused a downward spiral in the economy, many countries across the world have experienced intense shortage of labour.

People stopped reporting to their workplaces, with many voluntarily quitting their jobs, at a time when the demand for workers was at an all-time high.

While striving to attract a greater workforce, many companies have opted to increase salaries for their workers, but this has still failed to solve the issue.

In the United States, for instance, there are over 10 million vacancies at the moment, spread across all sectors in the economy.

Countries that have been greatly affected include the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and parts of the European Union.

Here are some sectors in the diaspora that are in dire need of workers.

  1. Hospitality and Tourism

Demand for staff in the hospitality sector is on the rise, since this is a field that requires in-person services. A majority of workers did not report back to work when the economy reopened, with some voluntarily quitting their jobs.

Movie Theaters, recreation centers, and other entertainment venues were among the businesses hit hardest by the pandemic restrictions, and now, employers are using tactics such as pay increase to attract more employees.

For instance, salaries for cooks have extremely shot up, as they had experienced a 60 per cent mortality rate in 2020 alone.

The search for waiters and waitresses is growing, since a number of people are avoiding these jobs, claiming that there is a high risk of infection.

  1. Transportation and warehousing

A report done by CNN business on October 25, 2021, indicated that when the pandemic hit, many people, especially Americans, shopped from home.

With the reopening of the economy, huge retailers are seeking persons who can help in transportation of products.

As a result, these companies have embarked on a hiring spree of delivery guys and warehouse employees.

  1. Caregivers

As unpopular as this field maybe, and people avoid taking care of the aged and disabled in society, employees are paid up to Ksh5,000 per hour.

Australia is especially in need of workers in this sector. Additionally, this job does not require qualifications.

     4. Education

The New York Times carried out a survey which showed that over 3 million people failed to report back to their work stations, especially those who have little children as they fear getting infected.

The education sector, which is very critical, has been hit hard as many service providers in schools resigned from their specific work places.

The search for service providers such as cooks and clearners is on demand, with some institutions paying up to Ksh53,000 for these  posts.

   5. Security Services

Security is paramount everywhere, and for countries like Australia, Dubai, the United Kingdom and the United States, security guards are earning big.

In Dubai, for instance, a security guard earns up to Ksh121,000 when working full time.
