Ajuma Nasanyana, is a 36-year-old international supermodel who was born in Turkana, Kenya.
While sharing her life experience in an interview on Tuesday, November 9, Ajuma narrated how her early life was not an easy one, as she was born to a teenage mother.
She, however, stated that her and her mother were fortunate enough to find a family that took them in and educated them both.
“I was a case of teenage pregnancy. We met a family that took us in, took me to a private school, and educated both my mother and I,” Ajuma recalled.
Ajuma proceeded to add that when she joined school, she excelled at running. She participated in several competitions and became the 400M champion in 2003.
“I trained with the International Olympic Committee at the Kipchoge Camp for one year, and I became the National Champion,” she stated.
Ajuma stated that her victory in athletics was her first and major step in joining the modelling industry.
Becoming a champion opened the door for people across the globe to spot her as she was all over the newspapers.
“There is an international modelling agency that saw me in the newspaper when I won. They came and hunted me down, and gave me a contract. They took me and the first city I started modelling in was Paris,” Ajuma noted.
She explained that she was drawn to accept the contract because running had began taking a toll on her.
In addition, Ajuma stated that Eliud Kipchoge, the world athletics record holder, had trained her on running but seeing the modelling opportunity, she decided to give it a shot.
“When this opportunity came, I was like, I just walk and get paid. I then decided to give it a shot, and the rest became history,” she stated.
Ajuma stated that she has walked in the biggest fashion shows in the world among very renown people, something she never thought she would achieve.
She rose to fame after being featured in the Victoria Secret international modeling show.
“The experience is so exciting. All the international stars you never thought you’ll meet are in the crowd cheering you, and you can’t even get over it,” Ajuma stated.
Currently, Ajuma runs a foundation called Ajuma Nasanyana Foundation, which is aimed at ensuring children from poor backgrounds have access to education.
