Senior BBC Africa Editor Anne Mawathe Quits

Seasoned journalist, Anne Mawathe, is leaving the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

In a communication by the media house's management to employees and seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Mawathe will be leaving the BBC officially in December to pursue other interests.

The memo by Senior News Editor - Africa TV,  Vera Kwakofi, Mawathe is currently serving her last days at the broadcasting giant.

Mawathe served as the Africa Health Editor for three years and led the health teams across various African markets.

The media house hailed her for her efforts in growing some of their most successful health segments such as Life Clinic and La Vie.

"Anne was instrumental in setting up the BBC Africa Health unit and has over the last three years led the health teams in Nairobi, Dakar and Lagos."

"She oversaw the launch of our flagship Health programmes Life Clinic, La Vie and Maisha, and grew the coverage of health stories from the continent across BBC News platforms," the communication by Kwakofi read in part.

Mawathe also appeared on other BBC programmes such as The She Word and The Breakdown at various points during her three-year stay at the media house.

"We’ll miss her sharp editorial instinct, passionate storytelling, witty anecdotes and love for the cake which she so generously shared."

"We’ll communicate details of our farewell arrangements before then. We wish her the best in all her future endeavours," the memo concluded.

According to our sources, Mawathe will be joining Reuters, an international news organisation owned and run by Thomson Reuters and that employs over 2,500 journalists globally.

Our sources disclosed that the health journalist will be taking up her new assignment in January 2022.

At the same time, BBC business news anchor, Hudheifa Aden, is also leaving the media house. He joined BBC from NTV and has worked at the media house for three years.
