The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has offered a Ksh60 million cash reward for information on three terror suspects who broke out of Kamiti Maximum Prison.

In a statement by the DCI on Monday, November 15, the police confirmed that terror suspects escaped from the prison at 1 am on Monday morning.

However, the police did not disclose how the three suspects managed to escape from the highly secured prison.

"A reward of Ksh60 million will be offered to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the following three terror suspects, who escaped from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison today at 1 am,"  the police stated.

The announcement by the police barely come days after the DCI issued a cash reward of Ksh10 million for five most-wanted terror suspects in Kenya.

Following their escape, the DCI released a statement that detailed the offenses that the three had allegedly participated in. One of the suspects was arrested in 2012 after participating in a foiled terror attack that had been planned for Parliament buildings.

"The terror inmate was arrested on September 30, 2012, over his participation in a foiled attempt to conduct a terrorist attack targeting Parliament buildings. He was charged with possession of explosives, ammunition, and firearms," read the statement in part.

The second suspect had been arrested for his involvement in the Garissa University attack that took place in April 2015 while the third suspect had been booked for attempting to enlist into the Al Shabaab terror group in 2019.

The DCI further cautioned the public that the three suspects are considered to be dangerous urging Kenyans to report any information on the three through the DCI hotline 0800 722 203 to report anonymously.

Additionally, Commissioner General of Prisons, Wycliffe Ogallo stated that he had visited the prison on a mission to establish what had occurred. He also echoes sentiments by the DCI warning Kenyans not to offer refuge to the suspects.

"The matter has been brought to the attention of all security agencies in the country with the view of tracking and apprehending the escapees," the commissioner stated.

In a separate event on Saturday, November 13, the DCI announced that they had arrested a middle-aged man in Lang'ata on suspicions of being a terrorist.

The man was reported to have approached a police officer and offered Ksh 180,000 in exchange for information on one of the busy entertainment joints in the Nairobi estate.

"The suspect sought to know on which day of the week a popular joint along Langata Road, hosts the largest number of patrons," read the statement.
