The government has intervened to calm the anxiety on the ongoing Kazi Mtaani programme registration, issuing a fresh directive to interested applicants.
The programme, which was launched on Friday, November 19, by Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary, Charles Hinga, saw over 7,500 people register within 30 minutes of the launch.
PS Hinga noted that the high number of people accessing the website at a go had pushed the traffic to the limit, forcing the system to suffer intermittent breakdowns.
He, however, noted that the government had increased the server capacity to allow more people to access the portal and ensure a seamless registration process.
To calm the anxiety and rush among the applicants, PS Hinga has made it clear that the qualified applicants will be picked on success and not on the first come first serve basis.
"We sincerely apologize for the anxiety caused when the system went down. We are live. Our teams are working round the clock to ensure a better user experience. Try giving as much accurate info as possible. There will be a validation process later," the PS stated.
"Kindly note this is not a first come first serve basis, and registration is open for the next two weeks. Everyone will register. Also note there are many crooks asking you to pay, don’t pay anyone to register, it’s free of charge."
PS Hinga noted that information was missing in some of the counties but the government is working to restore the service.
"Within the first 30 mins of going live, already over 7,500 of you had registered. I note we have some challenges with some sub-counties info is missing. No stress we shall add it. Remember we have another two weeks to register so no stressing," the PS stated.
Additionally, he directed the applicants to ask questions regarding the exercise using the right channels to avoid being swindled.
On missing information on some counties, the PS has announced that the website will be shut down after making a public announcement to allow the missing tabs to be added.
"But we will shut down the system later this evening (will communicate the time) to update all missing information. Again no need to panic we have a long way to go."
So far, in the last 12 hours over 181 individuals have successfully registered. Leading counties are; Nairobi (37800); Kiambu (14,900); and Nakuru 9,650.
The third phase of the Kazi Mtaani programme aims to bring on board inexperienced, experienced, and semi-experienced youths.
The activities will include construction works using Appropriate Building Materials and Technologies (ABMT), construction of hostels in selected TVETS, construction works to complete previously stalled economic stimulus program market, construction works to remove asbestos roofing in government estates.
The government further promised to ensure that gender balance will be achieved during the recruitment exercise. Also, people living with disabilities will be given priority.
"The selection committee will include parties such as NGAO, Nyumba Kumi, and technical officers from various agencies," the PS announced.
Initially, the recruitment process was not done online. The shift to using the online platform is aimed at clearing any doubts and favoritism in the process.
