The President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Nelson Havi, on Monday, November 22, denounced claims that he was being funded by Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking during an interview with a local media outlet, Havi denied claims that Ruto funded him to contest for the LSK presidency last year.

He stated that when he declared interest in the seat, many of his learned friends claimed that he was being used as a proxy to block the constitutional reforms under the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

"When I declared interest in the LSK presidency three years ago, many claimed that my bid was being funded by Ruto, which is not true," Havi stated.

Havi revealed that many people sponsored his bid for the LSK top seat, including lawyers. He further added that he would be happy if the DP funded his bid.

"He did not fund me, but I would be more than glad if he did," he reiterated.

Havi also refuted claims that his defection to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which is affiliated to the country's second in command, was not financially motivated. Havi explained that the decision informed by similar political ideologies.

"If you marry my four-point agenda and the bottom-up model, you realise that the end result is to benefit Kenyans of all colours," he explained.

The city lawyer, who declared interest in the Westlands Parliamentary seat, revealed that in his forays in the constituency, UDA was the best party to contest the seat with.

"I have come to the conclusion that the most viable vehicle that resonates with me, that has the heart beat of the people of Westlands is UDA," he remarked.

He also highlighted that there were many similarities between him and DP Ruto, citing that both of them have a lot of energy, they are full of determination and are courageous.
