A driver who was allegedly fired by the 2NK SACCO for allegedly attempting to report 14 rowdy and intoxicated students to the police, has landed a new job.

John Maina Muthoni was offered a position as a driver by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga in the County on Tuesday, November 30.

While meeting Muthoni in his office, the governor observed his decision to report the drivers was heroic and courageous.

"Drugs abuse is a crime that breaks the hearts of many parents and ruins the lives of many young men and women and we condemn it at the highest level," Kahiga stated.

The 32-year-old driver was on his way to the police station when the students jumped from the windows of the moving matatu before he could reach the report desk.

On the same day, Muthoni announced that 2NK SACCO had fired him.

"I have lost a job because of reporting students for using bhang and alcohol in the vehicle, now they are harassing me," he wrote.

In a twist, however, 2NK SACCO management claimed Muthoni had refused to hand over the day's collection to the owner prompting him to be summoned for disciplinary action.

"When confronted about the issue for rectification, he argued with the stage controller, promoting his summon to the board for clarification, where he appeared and he in fact committed to go clear with his employer, after which he would resume his duties," the management stated.

Additionally, the SACCO stated that it was law-abiding and followed due process in handling the disciplinary matter.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti had also expressed disappointment with the sacking of John Muthoni and asked that he contacts him urgently.
