With over 25 years of experience in sports journalism, Elias Makori, is the Managing Editor, Sports at Nation Media Group (NMG).
Makori holds a Masters Degree in Sports Management from the Johan Cruyff Institute of Sports Studies, Barcelona, Spain.
Between April 2008 and April 2016, Makori was a Press Commissioner Member at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
Makori won the 2012 IAAF World Journalist of The Year, leading him to be the first and only African to win the award at that time.
He was also appointed a member of the Steering Committee for Kenya in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
He was tasked with overseeing improvement of athletics journalists' facilities and services at major competitions.
In July 2021, he was appointed to the World Athletics Heritage Plaque Panel of Experts as an advisor.
In his advisory capacity, he was tasked with providing insight in highlighting, celebrating, and linking together iconic and historic athletics competitions, careers, performances, cities, venues, landmarks, and cultures around the world.
Part of job was to also ensure African journalists’ interests are well taken care of by the IAAF and organisers of major championships
He is also known for championing the advancement of professionalism in athletics journalism globally.
Makori, who is a part-time journalism lecturer, has trained and mentored young, upcoming athletics journalists.
Makori was not shy to express his feelings after receiving the news of being among Top 100 Kenyans 2021, thanking everyone for their support.
