Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced roads in Nairobi and along Mombasa road set to experience traffic disruption due to the ongoing construction on the Nairobi Expressway.

Through a public notice issued on Friday, January 14, KeNHA cautioned commuters, motorists, and other road users to brace for snarl-up and congestions.

One of the areas is General Motors (GM) which has faced traffic disruptions recently due to multiple diversions created in the area. At the moment, contractors are building a road that will link the GM area to the Nairobi Expressway.

Mlolongo area will also experience traffic congestion owing to the erection of a new pedestrian footbridge. KeNHA has since advised all road users to exercise caution while driving or travelling around the area.

Those seeking to join Mombasa Road from areas around Syokimau and other adjacent areas were also warned of the disruption after access to the service lane was blocked.

Motorists were advised to make a U-turn at Allpark service road while others will drive all the way to Mlolongo to make an about-turn.

Excavation work at Gateway Mall was also expected to create traffic disruption around the area as contractors remove the oil pipeline that crosses under the Expressway.

Bunyala Round About all the way to University way also been earmarked for congestions due to the ongoing construction works.

According to KeNHa, the Nairobi Expressway completion stands at 82 per cent and the road is expected to be officially launched by March 2022.

The operation and monitoring centres stand at 99.5 per cent while the elevated parts of the roads stand at 98.5 per cent.

"Motorists are urged to continue exercising caution and road courtesy as that will help manage traffic better. In the meantime, KeNHA is committed to ensuring timely completion of the Nairobi Expressway and delivery of the best services to customers and stakeholders at all times," KeNHA stated.

The aforementioned traffic disruptions come a few days after the closure of the T-Mall Roundabout section of Lang'ata road for six days, from January 10 to January 15.

The affected section is the stretch from Weston Hotel to the intersection of Lang'ata Road and the Raila Odinga Way.

"Works will be scheduled to take place at night from 9.00 pm to 5.00 am throughout the construction period," read the statement in part.
