KTN presenter Jamal Gaddafi has resigned from Standard Group where he has worked for the past eight years.

In a statement, Gaddafi, who hosted a show dubbed Mzuqa TV on KTN, noted that Saturday, January 29 was his last day at the station and thanked his fans for supporting him through the years.

"It's time for a new adventure. Yesterday was my last show at KTN as I start a new chapter of my life in politics," he noted.

The popular presenter also shared a video showing him in tears while bidding bye to the show's producer and his co-hosts Laura Mbatha and DJ Epic.

In a past interview with Kenyans.co.ke, Gaddafi, revealed that he would be contesting for the Malindi Parliamentary seat in this year's General Election.

He added that he would vie for the seat under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and had submitted his name for the nomination process.

"First is to go through the nomination process to get the party (ODM) ticket," he remarked.

Further, Gaddafi noted that he would support the candidate that would win the party preliminaries, adding that he would not contest as an independent candidate if he lost.

His exit from Standard Group is in line with the guidelines that were issued by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) on August 19.

MCK declared that all journalists and media practitioners seeking elective seats in this year's General Election should resign from their positions six months in advance.

"As it applies in the public service where civil servants intending to vie for political office are required to leave office six months to elections and are under strict edicts not to use their space and influence to campaign for political office, the media is no exception," MCK announced.
