The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Raila Odinga, has officially appointed former investigative journalist Dennis Onsarigo as the Press Secretary for the Raila Odinga's Presidential Campaign Secretariat.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Raila stated that Onsarigo brings in years of experience to the table as the former Premier leads the Azimio La Umoja movement.

"It is with pleasure that I announce Mr Dennis Onsarigo as the new Press Secretary of my 2022 campaign secretariat. Mr Onsarigo is a professional, bringing journalism and media consulting experience spanning fourteen years to the table.”

“He has worked with two leading media houses, Nation Media Group and the Standard Media Group as the investigations editor/reporter and manager,” the ODM leader stated.

Detailing his academic achievements, Raila hailed Onsarigo as the perfect fit for his campaign team as the ODM party leader takes a fifth stab at the Presidency.

“He is a holder of a Bachelor of Arts - Communications and Political Science, a Diploma in Broadcast Journalism and currently pursuing a Master of Arts in governance, peace, and security.”

Indicating his privy role within the team, Raila stated that the former crime reporter will handle all media relations regarding Raila's campaign and work with mainstream media in the dissemination of news.

"He will coordinate all media relations needs of the Raila Odinga 2022 Campaign Secretariat, including media engagement and management, media liaison between the secretariat and coalition partners and work closely with mainstream media in the dissemination of news and information."

"Until his appointment, Mr Onsarigo worked as Director of Communications at the County Government of Taita Taveta where he was the link between the County/National governments and the Council of Governors," read part of the statement.

Onsarigo's appointment will pit him against Hussein Mohamed, the Head of Communications in Deputy President William Ruto's Presidential Campaign Secretariat.

The two locked horns recently in the issue pitting him against COTU boss Francis Atwoli's recent remarks against DP Ruto which Hussein termed as reckless and careless.

Raila's team, led by Onsarigo, released a statement pointing out that the remarks made by DP Ruto's team were aimed at blaming the Azimio movement and plotting for a way to reject the results at the August polls should Raila win.
