Thousands of parents and candidates waited with baited breath for the release of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results by Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, on Monday, March 28.
While delivering his speech, a particular teacher caught the attention of the tough-talking Cabinet Secretary, who took time to heap praise on the vital role the tutor played during the marking of the KCPE exams.
The teacher, only identified as Yusuf, was credited for burning the midnight oil in order to ensure that the KCPE results were released on time.
"I've just remembered I want to recognise one person, Yusuf stand up so that they can see you. Everybody forgets about this young boy over here called Yusuf.
"The fact that we were able to mark these exams quickly and on time, he is the last in the chain, so let's not judge people from where they are. There are times he was sleeping at 4.30am and by 7.30am he's here. I had identified all my leaders but I would not forget you," Magoha noted.
Magoha also addressed the issue of unemployment in the country, pointing out that the majority of Kenyans harbored selfish interests.
"I think Kenya is not a poor country, it's just that it lacks enough quality workers, I think that there are many jobs but no workers in Kenya because people work for their pockets," he noted.
The CS affirmed that the government is on course to construct 10,000 classrooms at Ksh788,000 each. This, the CS stated, would ensure his successor would have a smooth transition.
"Before we leave office, we shall have constructed 10,000 classrooms at Ksh788,000 each. I want to ask Members of the fourth estate to be making noise about this," Magoha pointed out.
The Education CS reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensure a 100 per cent transition for all primary school pupils to secondary schools.
"All of the children will transition to high school, you will ask why yet some were caught colluding but the law says that if a child is found colluding in primary school for that subject they get zero, but they will pay for it," he noted.
