A plane carrying 60 passengers had an accident after leaving Nairobi for Entebbe International Airport in Uganda.

The plane started its journey in Kigali, Rwanda, before making a stopover in Nairobi on Wednesday morning, April 20.

According to the Monitor, 20 of the 60 passengers were lady guests who were invited to grace Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s son - Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, birthday party.

The airline has since released a statement confirming the incident and added there were no casualties reported.

"We can confirm that flight was involved in an incident at 05:31 this morning, which led to the aircraft veering off the runway upon landing into Entebbe during adverse weather.

“All customers and crew were evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported. The situation is under control and we are in contact with the affected customers.  The aircraft is currently being recovered, so Entebbe’s runway can return to use,” the statement read in part.

Museveni's son has planned a star-studded birthday party as he turns 48 on April 24, 2022. The party, which has a whole committee dedicated to planning, will be held at Lugogo Stadium (Lugogo Cricket Oval).

Kainerugaba had earlier in the year resigned from the military with speculation rife that he was preparing to move into politics and succeed his father as President.

Earlier in the week, Kainerugaba announced that he would hold a grand party to celebrate his birthday. Among the invited guests are President Uhuru Kenyatta and Rwanda's President Paul Kagame - who has already confirmed attendance.

"Spoke to my beloved big brother, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, this morning. I love him very much, I will always be on his side! I hope he attends the birthday party," he stated.

However, he received criticism from a section of Kenyan social media users who argued that Uhuru had better things to do in Kenya. In response, he told off his critics affirming his brotherly bond with President Kenyatta.

"Hahaha! I can see some Kenyan haters angry because I love my big brother. You will be well. H.E. Uhuru is my real big brother. According to legends, his grandfather was Omukama Kabalega. One of our greatest kings. Uganda and Kenya are linked by blood relations," he wrote.

In the past, the two have been spotted spending time together in Naivasha, while inspecting the Inland Container Depot project. Uhuru has not confirmed if he would make it to the star-studded event.
