Kenya has, over the years, proved that it is the most preferred travel destination with the latest entry being an exquisite eight-room hotel converted from a family home.

In their annual ranking, Conde Nast Traveller, a magazine headquartered in Manhattan, named Eden Hotel along Lang'ata Road among the best new facilities worldwide in a project titled 'The Annual Hot Lists 2022.'

According to the publication, the hotel stood out for its birdsong and lush grounds making visitors feel like it is a living museum.

"Few hotels feel quite as much like like a living museum. As well as Anna's (the founder) signature layering of colour and texture, walls are crammed with Tonio's wild portraits and there are ceramics by daughter Lana and Bronzes by son Stanislaw.

"Bedrooms are breezy, with ornately carved beds and seashell-lined bathrooms," read the review in part.

The hotel also spots artworks collected by the family that owned the home throughout a lifetime.

The mansion was first built by a young German couple, Anna Trzebinski and her husband Tonio Trzebinski, while they were in their 20s.

The idea of transforming the home into a hotel dawned on Anna in 2020 at a time when she was dealing with the collapse of income during the Covid-19 pandemic.

She then placed a number of her possessions on auction in an attempt to raise money that would cushion both her and the team from the pandemic's effects.

"We have worked together for three decades, given birth together, married, educated our kids together, buried husbands together," Anna told the Financial Times at the time.

The fashion designer and her team embarked on transforming the eight-bedroom home and in just six months created a sanctuary and arts hub.

On its website, the hotel takes pride in having a private gallery space that is filled with the family’s own artworks and creations, as well as their personal library and artifacts that have been collected over a lifetime from across the continent.

Conde Nast Traveller is a respectable magazine title carried by Conde Nast which also manages other luxurious publications among them Vogue, New Yorker and Vanity Fair.
