New details have emerged about the road accident that claimed the life of Rabai Member of Parliament (MP) the late William Kamoti on Sunday, May 29.

According to NTV, witnesses told the police that the MP's vehicle lost control after a lorry rammed into the rear of the vehicle and was not involved in a head-on collision as preliminary reports indicated.

Following the impact, the car ferrying the legislator rolled on the road before veering off and landing on a nearby ditch.

First respondents who rushed to the scene stated that Kamoti was still alive. They added that they tried to administer first aid to Kamoti but could barely access him through the mangled wreck.

The police managed to pull the lawmaker and his driver out of the vehicle and rushed them to the Kilifi County Referral Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead, while his driver is recuperating in hospital.

Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) broke the news, stating that the MP was involved in a road accident on his way home after receiving clearance from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The fallen politician was laid to rest at his Rabai home on Monday, May 30, in accordance with the Muslim customs. His funeral was attended by the Azimio One Kenya presidential flagbearer among other dignitaries.

Raila eulogised Kamoti as a wise leader, whom he regarded as a brother. The former Prime Minister promised to ensure that the MP's family was well taken care of.

"He has left behind a wife and children. I will personally ensure that his children continue with their education until completion. We will pull together and ensure that we help you," he stated.

Odinga further instructed the leaders from the region to hold discussions with the family of the MP to nominate from amongst themselves, a person who will take over the ODM leadership mantle.

Kilifi Governor Amason Jeffah Kingi, who mourned the MP, described him as an admirable leader who would be remembered for his style of leadership.

"Kamoti will be remembered for his non-confrontational leadership style which saw him earn admiration from many people beyond his constituency and also enabled him to achieve a lot for the people of Rabai Constituency," Kingi stated.
