Kenyans who wish to own motor vehicles can now bid as the the government plans to dispose off units in a mass auction.
The National Irrigation Authority (NIA), on Tuesday, May 31, announced that it had embarked on a five-day exercise to auction motor vehicles, tractors and other assorted items.
The inventory is contained in various irrigation schemes with interested candidates being advised to visit and assess the state of the motor vehicles on auction beginning June 9.
For instance, the auction exercise at Mwea Irrigation Scheme is scheduled for Monday, June 20, with target property including motor vehicles and heavy machinery equipment.
Other properties on auction are assorted batteries, assorted spare parts, assorted tires, assorted office equipment, assorted office furniture and assorted electrical fittings.
At Ahero Irrigation Scheme, the exercise is scheduled for Tuesday, June 21 and only motor vehicles are available for auction.
On Wednesday, June 22, the auction is slated to take place at Miad Center in Mwea while in Bunyala, the exercise is slated for Thursday, June 23.
The exercise will conclude on Friday, June 24, at Bura Irrigation Scheme. In all the centers, the exercise will begin at 11:00am except Monday which is slated for 8:30am.
How to Bid
All interested bidders are advised to pay the authority a non-refundable fee of Ksh500 for a catalog of the vehicles and the other items.
To enter the draw, all interested bidders must also deposit Ksh10,000 refundable deposits for the vehicles and tractors and Ksh5,000 for the other property.
"Vehicles and all disposable items (stores and equipment) are sold 'as-is-where-is-basis' and the sale is subject to reserve price.
"The successful tenderer must pay a deposit of 25 per cent of the purchase price at the fall of the hammer on the auction date and the balance of 75 per cent within seven calendar days, failure to which the 25 per cent deposit will be forfeited and the item will be disposed off at the sole discretion of NIA," read the notice in part.
