Murang'a governor, Mwangi Wa Iria, has called on Kenyans to join him on Tuesday, June 7, when he will lead the country in delivering a petition to the National Assembly and the Senate after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) refused to clear him to run for president.
Addressing the press on Friday, June 3, the Usawa Kwa Wote leader stated that IEBC was illegally clearing presidential aspirants adding that Wafula Chebukati's actions were a matter of international importance and concern.
He stated that he will submit a memorandum to the August House for lawmakers and the Cabinet to discuss the conduct Chebukati after the electoral body chair refused to meet him.
"I’m demanding that a special team be set up to audit what is happening at IEBC and it must be made up of observers. I’m now speaking as the President of the Usawa Kwa Wote resistance movement, I am resisting electoral injustice.
"Nothing should continue. No one should be gazetted because you cannot gazette someone because of fraud," he stated.
Wa Iria added that he has requested a meeting with diplomats from the European Union on the same Tuesday to discuss IEBC's illegality in clearing presidential aspirants without an audited voter register.
"I have today written to the European Union requesting to meet them on Tuesday next week. I want us to discuss the malpractices and unfair candidate clearing process because it requires an outside ear now."
The governor described the clearance of presidential aspirants as an act of terrorism, stating that the country was headed for ruins if Chebukati was allowed to continue with the process.
Further, Wa Iria called on the international community to intervene in his matter adding that the International Criminal Court (ICC) should prosecute Chebukati for bungling the electoral process.
In the last few days, the Murang'a governor has openly criticised Chebukati for declining his candidature and accused him of being used by external forces.
In an attempt to meet Chebukati on May 31, the governor urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) boss, George Kinoti, to help him look for Chebukati who he stated was evading him.
"I have been looking for my returning officer and I am now going to file a report with the DCI that he is missing. He only appears in the media at night to mention me then vanishes," he stated then.
