Wiper politicians have stated that former Vice President, Kalonzo Musyoka, secured lucrative positions and development deals for the Ukambani region during negotiations to return to Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition.

Speaking at a rally in Tala, Machakos county on Friday, June 3, Matungulu Member of Parliament, Stephen Mule, revealed that Kalonzo secured four ministerial positions and 30 ambassadorial posts.

Additionally, he stated that the lower Eastern region will benefit from mega development projects including improved roads networks.

"Those who were thinking that we did not know what we were doing were mistaken. We shall have four Cabinet positions, 30 Ambassadors, 40 board of directors in parastatals, and 1,050 kilometers of road for our rural areas," Mule stated.

On his part, Kalonzo, who is set to take up the Chief Minister position, stated that the deal was good, expressing that he made the right calculations for the region this time.

The Wiper leader further urged the people of Ukambani to support the Azimio team, stating that it had the best interests of the community at heart.

Kalonzo explained that Deputy President William Ruto's lead faction was never an option for him, adding that he was incompatible with the policies of their rivals.

"If you add our votes to those of Mount Kenya, this election is done. We did that yesterday. This time around, I did the right calculations.

"There is no way I could have worked with Kenya Kwanza. It would have been against what I believe in. Some of them called me so many names but we have already decided on the direction we want to take," he stated.

According to earlier reports on negotiations, the Wiper party boss was pushing to be allocated the ministries of energy, health, tourism, and water.

Previously, Raila's presidential secretarial spokesperson, Makau Mutua, stated that Kalonzo's demands would be listened to by the Azimio Council, noting that he had a lot of influence in the country.

"Politics is about negotiations, bargaining, and what you can get. It is not about getting things on a silver platter. Kalonzo is a senior member of this society and an experienced politician, he commands a large following in some parts of the country.

"Obviously, he thinks that he deserves to be considered and we agree. We will have to consider him. When unveiling the Azimio running mate, we offered Kalonzo the position of Chief Minister," stated Mutua at the time.
