Jubilee vice chair, David Murathe, has urged Kenyans not to vote in Deputy President William Ruto as the next Head of State arguing that his administration may be one of the worst regimes ever.

Speaking to K24 TV, Murathe pointed out five dangerous decisions Ruto may make if given power, claiming that such decisions may be punitive and hamper efforts to promote democracy in the country.

He first claimed that the DP was temperamental and would rule with an iron fist. Murathe, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, cited the leaked audio in which Ruto was recorded allegedly threatening to slap his boss in putting his point across.

“Ruto had the audacity to slap a Reuben Chesire, a Minister during the President Daniel arap Moi era, who was old enough to be his father. He also said he was going to slap Uhuru Kenyatta and was unapologetic. If such a thought can cross his mind, it tells you who you are dealing with.

“If he can dare to slap the President, what can he do to you (mwananchi)?” Murathe wondered.

He went ahead to claim that Ruto would be an unapologetic President, one who won’t think twice about stamping his authority and achieving his agenda by all means.

Murathe argued that Ruto's desire to slap Uhuru was an indication of his personality and character. The DP, in his response to the leaked audio allegedly linked to him, claimed that he was against Uhuru relinquishing power, painting him as a weak leader rather than a diplomatic politician.

The DP, however, defended himself by arguing that his opponents were now secretly recording and maligning him.

In his onslaught on the DP, Murathe also pointed out that Ruto would change the Constitution to suit his own agenda and further argued that Ruto would not relinquish power if he ever succeeded President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kenya, unlike many other African nations, enjoys democracy with the President allowed to only serve for two terms. According to Murathe, the DP is a vindictive leader and someone who would die for power.

As Kenya Kwanza’s co-principal, Ruto leads the outfit that has millions of followers which Murathe claims would be a litmus test for the DP’s decision-making skills. He argued that the DP’s first resolution after the August 9 polls, in case he loses, would give Kenyans a glimpse of his real character.

“I am very fearful of what will happen when the man is defeated. You can be sure that he will not concede defeat. Uhuru is the only President who conceded defeat in 2002,” Murathe furthered his attack on the DP.

“Nobody can believe Ruto. He has been on record promising laptops and stadia. Ruto has been powerfully in government for 30 years. If there was something he wanted to do for Kenyans, he has had all the opportunities to do it.”

The DP, nonetheless, has always defended himself claiming that he was kicked out of government and could not help Uhuru stay on track with their manifesto.

He has continuously blamed Azimio La Umoja candidate, Raila Odinga, for derailing Uhuru with the handshake, sentiments the President opposed.
