A six-wheeled truck branded with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party colours and images of Deputy President William Ruto and his running mate, Rigathi Gachagua has elicited debate on social media.

Photographs of the multi-million truck emerged on social media on Friday, July 8, evening after they were shared by a Twitter user under the username LaqueenJ.

A section of the online users was exited by the modified vehicle which was customised with campaign messages for the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Kenyans on social media marvelled at the car's features such as the scissors doors and the huge exhaust at the front of the vehicle.

On the other hand, others also wondered about the cost of the truck.

"Never seen such a truck in my life. Just wondering how much it costs as it does not look cheap," Tom Oyier, a Facebook user stated.

A spot check by Kenyans.co.ke revealed that a 6-wheeled truck can cost a whooping Ksh10 million with a majority of the cars retailing at a cool Ksh30 million.

Some of the brands that are modified to 6-wheeled trucks include Ford, Mercedes Benz and Toyota -which is the most common.

"Anyone interested in building a 6×6 pickup truck needs a solid base. This is why the Toyota Land Cruiser is a perfect choice.  An off-roading truck with six wheels is on your wish list, be prepared to pay around Ksh17 million.

"Factoring in the donor truck’s cost, parts, labour, and finishing, this price isn’t quite as ludicrous as it might seem at first glance. Additionally, you get the added benefit that this truck will likely last forever." read a review Motor Biscuit.

Over the years, elections have not only been a battle for numbers but also a showground for who unveils top-of-the-range vehicles as well as choppers.

In 2007, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga made headlines after he rolled up to a campaign rally with a hummer. He was later christened Nyundo which is the Swahili moniker for the hammer.
