Pastor Dorcas Rigathi has criticised Nyayo Stadium management for blocking her from holding a prayer meeting at the facility.
The wife of Kenya Kwanza’s presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua lamented that the Director General of Kenya Sports, Pius Metto, asked her to relocate the meeting to Kasarani Stadium as Nyayo was fully booked.
She argued that her organisation, the Association of Pentecostal and Evangelical clergy of Kenya (APECK) had already paid for the venue, and thus could not comprehend the management had second thoughts.
“We were with the manager of Nyayo Stadium who took us around the facility and permitted us to start putting up our sound equipment in readiness to pray for the destiny of Kenya,” she cried foul.
She further complained that the decision was politically instigated.
Her group rejected the idea of relocating less than 48 hours to the event, noting that restructuring the whole project will throw their plan in jeopardy.
"This is a very short notice of just about 48 hours. We are here to indicate that it is practically impossible to change the venue and have the logistics ready,"
“We made all applications on time and we want to be treated as citizens of Kenya,” Bishop Daniel Kabono added.
However, Sports Kenya Managing Director dismissed the claims arguing that he was only exercising his duties.
"They have been directed to go to Kasarani due to unavoidable circumstances.
"We have not denied them anything. I am just doing my work," he responded.
