The Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party headed by Ugenya MP-elect David Ouma Ochieng has officially decamped from the Azimio La Umoja coalition to Kenya Kwanza alliance.

Speaking on Friday, August 26, president-elect William Ruto announced that after weeks of deliberation with MDG, an agreement was signed to officiate the union.

"On behalf of Kenya Kwanza I want to welcome my brother David Ouma Ochieng and the Movement for Democracy and Growth party that is joining Kenya Kwanza," Ruto announced.

Ruto added that the union will help the new government meet its agenda for the next five years by ensuring that every region is represented and developed.

David Ochieng the party leader noted that MDG was the piece of the puzzle missing in the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.

"Our manifesto aligns with that of Kenya Kwanza that seeks to improve the lives of all Kenyans in all fields," Ochieng said.

In addition, he recalled the importance of nurturing young politicians in the country. He noted that he looks forward to growing and learning from Ruto.

The MDG Secretary General Mary Aconsilia Makokha noted that the party was treated equally to others in the Kenya Kwanza alliance.

Additionally, Ruto emphasised that the union breaks ethnic barriers since MDG is a party from the Nyanza region. Also, he announced that moving forward, politics will no longer be fueled by ethnicity.

"We have committed that after we are sworn in and establish a government, no region will be left behind. We want to move forward as a nation," he emphasised.

In attendance was Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja who embraced the new addition to Kenya Kwanza Coalition.

Ruto's Kenya Kwanza has in the past few days gained additional members from parties and independent leaders who have defected from Azimio La Umoja Coalition.

Some of the Raila-allied leaders and parties that joined Kenya Kwanza include Mandera Senator-elect Ali Roba and the United Democratic Movement (UDM) party.

Addressing the issue, Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni warned politicians allied to the party against defecting to Kenya Kwanza. According to Kioni, these leaders risk losing their seats.
