Martha Karua also thanked the team for their endless pursuit of justice. According to Karua, the lawyers were on a mission to defend the truth through the Supreme Court.

“The women and men worked tirelessly and selflessly in the representation of The People, to defend the truth and uphold justice,” Martha Karua stated in reference to the lawyers.

Raila and Karua filed a petition in protest of the declaration of William Ruto as the winner of the August 2022 elections.

The two assembled a team comprising of a blend of eminent lawyers and prodigies in the country to make their case to the Supreme Court judges.

Among the notable names in the team were James Orengo, Pheroze Norwojee and Philip Murgor who were the lead counsels in the petition.

Raila and Karua's 72-page petition highlighted the team's concerns regarding the conduct of the presidential election managed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The duo sought legal redress claiming that the postponement of gubernatorial elections In Mombasa and Kakamega counties suppressed voter turnout in their strongholds.

They also alleged that the results in the electoral commission's servers were infiltrated in favour of their opponent, William Ruto. In addition, the petitioners complained that the number of votes cast in other elective positions differed from those cast in the presidential election.

The Supreme Court adjourned the hearings and submissions from both the petitioners and respondents on Friday, September 2 after three days of court action. The seven-judge bench will burn the midnight oil over the weekend ahead of the much-anticipated verdict on Monday., September 5.

Karua intimated that they were willing to accept the decision of the apex court which is the final arbitrator of disputes emanating from a presidential election.
